Frequently Asked Questions

Question

Why does Palmenwind look taller than 16.2 hh?

Answer

Palmenwind's size is deceiving. He measures 16.2 hh at his withers, but because of his large bone structure and muscular physique, he seems much taller. He passes this substance on to his offspring.

Question

Will I get a grey foal if I breed my mare to Palmenwind?

Answer

Palmenwind is heterozygous for grey. This means he has a 50% chance of passing a grey gene to his foals. If this happens, the other genes that are passed to the foal from the mare will be masked by the grey. However, if he passes a "not-grey" gene, the foal could be black, bay or chestnut. The color will then depend on the other color genes passed by Palmenwind and the mare.

Question

Why is there such a large gap between Palmenwind's first crop of foals and the ones born in 1999?

Answer

The first crop of foals were produced under the managment of Palmenwind's previous owner. Spruce Lane Stable purchased Palmenwind in 1996 with the purpose of competing with him and learning about the business of breeding without actively participating in it. Now that Palmenwind has proven himself as a performance horse in the jumper ring, we are able to offer his breeding services to interested mare owners once again.

Question

What registries is Palmenwind approved by?

Answer

Palmenwind is a registered Trakehner with the American Trakehner Association. He is approved for breeding purposes with the Canadian Sport Horse Association (Bronze Premium) and the Canadian Trakehner Horse Society (Performance Approved).

Question

How can I get my mare or foal approved? Does my mare or foal qualify for the breed registry?
